EXT. KROON LAKE - CONTINUOUS
Kyle is about five feet from the boat when the rope slips
from Ben's hand as the zombie pulls it under.
The zombie's force is enough to pull the raft close enough
that Ben can reach it and pull him onto the boat but the
zombie grabs Kyle's leg at the last minute and pulls it
under.
Ben loses his grip for a second but manages to pull Kyle free
and into the boat.
SARAH HAWKINS
Oh my god!
Kyle is now missing a large chunk of his foot and blood is
pouring out of it.
BENJAMIN CROWE
Holy shit! Give me your towel.
Sarah takes off the towel and hands it to Ben who wraps it
around Kyle's foot.
BENJAMIN CROWE
Alright, now hold this, I'm gonna
get us out of here.
(to Kyle)
You're gonna be fine, okay?
Ben doesn't even give Kyle time to respond, he just rushes to
the captain's chair and starting up the engine.
He pulls out the cell phone his Dad gave him earlier only to
find it's not getting a signal.
EXT. JIM HAWKINS' CABIN - EVENING
Ben is racing up the yard towards the house with Kyle in his
arms and Sarah right behind him.
INT. JIM HAWKINS' CABIN BASEMENT - CONTINUOUS
They enter through the sliding glass door that leads to the
cabin's basement to find blood smeared all over the floor
leading up the stairs.
BENJAMIN CROWE
What the fuck?
SARAH HAWKINS
What happened here?
BENJAMIN CROWE
I don't know, I'm gonna go find our
Dads. Is there a phone down here?
Ben sets Kyle on a couch before following the trail of blood
to the stair case.
INT. JIM HAWKINS' CABIN - CONTINUOUS
Ben makes his way up the stairs with caution trying to avoid
the bloody foot prints he's following.
BENJAMIN CROWE
Dad? Jim? You guys up here?
Ben reaches the top of the stairs where he sees three bodies
dead and bloody on the floor. Two of them are rotted just
like the one in the lake, but the third is Gordon.
Ben's in shock, staring down at his father's body when he
hears a gurgled cough in the distance and spots Jim sitting
on the floor with his back against the wall.
Ben moves closer and sees that Jim's covering up a severe
gash in his neck with his left hand and holding a pistol in
the right.
BENJAMIN CROWE
What the hell happened here?
Jim has a hard time talking.
JIM HAWKINS
Where's my kids?
BENJAMIN CROWE
They're downstairs, but we need to
get Kyle to a hospital.
JIM HAWKINS
Why?
BENJAMIN CROWE
Something pulled him under water,
took a chunk out of his foot.
JIM HAWKINS
Something? Was it a person?
BENJAMIN CROWE
This is gonna sound crazy but I
think it was a-
JIM HAWKINS
A dead person?
BENJAMIN CROWE
Yeah, how'd you know that?
JIM HAWKINS
Damn it! We didn't think they'd get
this far so fast. Thought it would
be safe here.
BENJAMIN CROWE
What are you talking about?
JIM HAWKINS
You have to kill him.
BENJAMIN CROWE
What?
JIM HAWKINS
Me too. We've both been bitten.
That's how it works. It's how we
become them.
BENJAMIN CROWE
Jim, you're not making any sense.
It's how what works? What are they?
JIM HAWKINS
I don't know what they are. All I
know is this bite,
(pulls his hand from his
neck to show the wound)
Is going to kill me and make me
just like the mother fucker who
gave it to me. Just like the mother
fucker who killed your Dad and my
son.
BENJAMIN CROWE
Sarah's calling 911 right now, just
wait for the medics to show up,
they've gotta be able to do
something.
JIM HAWKINS
Even if they could get here in time
they can't stop this.
BENJAMIN CROWE
Well, I'm not gonna just let you
die.
Jim just smiles back at Ben with tears starting to form in
his eyes.
JIM HAWKINS
That sounds like something your Dad
would say.
(Jim leans in close to
Ben's ear)
Take care of my Daughter.
Jim puts the gun to his temple and pulls the trigger before
Ben can respond.
Blood splatters all over Ben's face as he kneels frozen in
place in front of the now dead Jim Hawkins.
INT. JIM HAWKINS' CABIN BASEMENT - EVENING
Sarah is still sitting beside Kyle and crying with a cordless
phone pressed to her ear but all she's getting is a busy
signal.
SARAH HAWKINS
Come on, come on!
A single gunshot rings out from up stairs, prompting her to
get up and move slowly towards the staircase as Kyle sits up
on the couch behind her.
